| Dr.Weiner joined USC as professor of Neurology and Microbiology in 1975 and was promoted to Chair of Neurology in 1979. Since that time, he has attracted millions of dollars in research funding. He also established a Child Neurology Service at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, which is part of the Department of Neurology. He retired from this position in 2003 to focus on patient care and research.
In 1987, he was named the Richard Angus Grant, Sr. Chair in Neurology at USC for his excellence in research and clinical applications. He has written more than 200 papers and has received numerous honors, including being named in the 1982 editions of “Who’s Who in America” and “Who’s Who in the World.”
Dr. Weiner earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his neurology residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he also pursued a fellowship in neurology and epidemiology, focusing on viruses of the nervous system. He then completed a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health Laboratory of Slow Virus Infections, working with D. Carlton Gadjusek, M.D., who subsequently won the Nobel Prize for his work in slow virus infections.
